Federico García Lorca

This is Federico García Lorca,
the great Spanish poet/dramatist
of the 20th century.
His works spoke to his native
Andalucía and his passion for
life. At the beginning of the
Spanish Civil War in 1936, Lorca,
a supporter of the republic, was
arrested by Franco’s hinchmen,
taken to a watermill in Viznar,
north of Granada, and shot as
part of a mass execution on the
next morning.
Below:

This is the Viznar watermill,
holding cell, for the prisoners
Franco had arrested at the start
of the Spanish Civil War in
1936. A mass grave still exists
here. In the mass grave are the
remains of Lorca.
